HI,
We are planning on upgrading from BW 3.5 ABAP/J2ee Addin on the Iseries with Portal 6.0 on Windows to BI 7.0 2004s and need some clarification.
We are thinking that we upgrade the ABAP on the Iseries then do a fresh install of Enterprise Portals on Windows with the BI JAVA
When run the upgrade on the Iseries does the ABAP/J2ee Addin we are currently using go away?
Do we have to uninstall the Addin prior to starting?
Regards,
Brian
Unfortunately our management are non believers on running Portals on the Iseries.
Since I don't know the correct way to delete all of the Java Addin we currently use - If I point the BI Java on the windows portals do I still have to use/patch/maintain the j2ee Addin on Iseries after the upgrade?
Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian,
if this is really your plan, I can only strongly recommend that we delete the Java before the upgrade, because in order to stay supported, YES, you would have to patch Java Addin as well :-((

Hi Brian,
if you want, you can scratch install the portal on windows with all pros and cons.
For the iSeries BW:
If you are having ABAP & Java-Addin, this normally needs to be upgraded both together - there was a special upgrade process designed. If you think, you do not have any data in the Java area, it would be possible in order to make the upgrade faster and easier to delete all the Java stuff. (But, I would call it "internal trick" as there is no official guide for that as I know of - and you should know what you are doing - otherwise the BW will not start up or create more issues during the upgrade)
