Making entry to Characteristic value in Material Master mandatory

Former Member

Hi all,

We are having a few important data in material master characteristics which needs to be maintained from business perspective in material master.

As we don't have a provision to make entry mandatory for characteristic values in material master as we have for other regular fields in material master, we are unable to ensure important data from being captured in material master.

Please suggest any measure by which we can make entry to these characteristic values in material master as mandatory, or any measure which will avoid saving material master without capturing these characteristic values.

Regards,

Anand.

the last answer in this discussion - unfortunately the only one that was neither marked helpful or correct - has quite a good and detailed answer for a solution with user exit.

It is quite possible by using transaction variant (SHD0).

But you need to take care of the selection view for classification at the time material creation. User can avoid that without selection of Classification view. But once you will go to classification view, then you have to maintain value, without maintain the value you can't go another tab or even save.

Dear Anand,

Kindly inform to your technical resource to get the maintenance status PSTAT from the Functional Module "MAIN_PARAMETER_GET"  while using the following user exit "EXIT_SAPLMGMU_001".

If the classification view is maintained then PSTAT will be updated the value with "C".

Based on this you can put enhancement.

Characteristics can be made mandatory in CT04

if this characteristic is not valuated then SAP changes the status of the classification to incomplete, and this can be analyzed and completed in CL24N

define clear responsibilities and remove authorization from those who cannot follow policies.

In my view there is no standard way to make this happen. You will have to use an user exit to make this work.
