Hi,

We want to upgrade BI 4.1 SP4 Patch 1 from BI 4.1 SP4.

Do we need to stop the BI Services and Tomcat?

Hi,

Once you start the patch upgrade setup then the services will be stopped automatically during upgrade. It is recommended to stop all BO services except CMS manually before starting the setup.

Yes. It is recommended to stop BI services and Tomcat just before starting the upgrade.

Hello,

This is not the recommended procedure.

Please see page 17 of the

Minor Release Update Guide for SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Suite 4.1

All servers except the following should be stopped manually:

• Server Intelligence Agent (SIA)

• Central Management Server (CMS)

• Input and Output File Repository Servers (FRS)

• CMS system database

Hi,

As I mentioned earlier stop all BO services except CMS that means the CMS, SIA and CMS system database should be up and running. As far as FRS is concerned we can can keep then running or stop them manually as it has worked both ways for me in the past, however I prefer to stop them manually before starting with the upgrade.

Hi Moritz,

Thank you very much for your answer.

Now, my BI Services look below before patching.

CMS, IFR and OFR is running only.

Also my task manager is like below picture.

Is Everything looking ready before patching?

Hello Tarumar,

You're welcome.

Check if all stopped services are really stopped on os level.

In our case the connectionserver(32).exe is usually still running, which can cause issues.

Then you're good to go from this point of view, if you have a working full backup available.
