New GL migration - Changing the classification of G/L accounts (item category assignment) before migration

Dear experts,

I have a question regarding the classification of G/L accounts (item category assignment) in New GL. We are performing a New GL migration in May 2015. Currently we are in phase 1 of the New GL migration, using migration package 5 with document splitting. (The New GL validation is activated with log)

Now our client wants to use a new G/L account for a new process, unfortunately the G/L account is assigned to the wrong item category. To be able to process the postings as required, we need to change the item category assignment. Note that there haven't yet been postings made to this account.

According to note 891144 (New GL/Document splitting: Risks w/ subsequent changes), changing the classification of G/L accounts may lead to errors in the document splitting. But as there are no existing postings for this account, we don't expect any problems.

Could you please confirm if there is any impact on the New GL migration, when changing the classification of an G/L accounts without any existing postings?

Hi,

If no postings were done on the account, then you cannot expect problems at all. Otherwise, creation of new G/L account would be preferred option. Though, even changing the assignment with existing postings is non-conservative, but still possible, with relevant precautions. But, in your case, there is no such a dilemma.
