I installed BI 4.1 SP5 on the same server as BI3.

I noticed that the CCM the SIA Server is not showing, but it's showing on the BI3 CCM.

Why SIA didnt install? I know not.

Also Tomcat is crashing so I cant even login to CMS.

Please help....

Best practice is to install BI 4.1 on different server.

Which server version BI3 on?

Check whether BOTH Tomcats are running on port 8080 if already not done so.

Stop the XI 3.1 Tomcat to see if you can launch the /BOE/CMC page.

Check Start -> Run -> "services.msc".

How many Tomcat services do you see in this list (the names may be Apache Tomcat, or Tomcat, etc.)?

Ideally there should be 2 unique Tomcat service, 2 unique Tomcat folders in each XI 3.1 and BI 4.1 installation folder.

You can start a Tomcat by going into its folder/bin and executing the Tomcat exe also just to test.

So you've reinstalled BI 4 and this time ONLY Tomcat is missing?

Are you using separate installation drives?

The XI 3.1 Tomcat won't work on this because in Bi 4.x we have differnt web appilcations.

For example: /CmcApp now becomes /BOE/CMC .. /InfoViewApp becomes /BOE/BI ... etc.

So it is normal for XI 3.1 Tomcat to not work for BI 4.1.

No, this time I cant open tomcat7 .../BOE/CMC

The Tomcat service keeps crashing.

The install are not on different drives though.

Hi Jonathan,

This is known as a Side-By-Side installation (xi 3.1 and BI 4.1 on the same server).

For this a few things need to be adhered to:

1. Both installs must be on separate physical drives (e.g. C:\ and D:\).

2. All services in the XI 3.1 and BI 4.1 (including SIA and CMS) need to run on unique static ports.

Both installations will have their own administrative tools such as CCM, CMC, etc.

As Jawahar has already indicated, it is not recommended to perform a side-by-side installation.

I made sure that I changed the ports on the install wizard.

I have uninstalled and resintalled but this time Tomcat7 is not installed correctly!

If I use the old R3 tomcat I am able to login to the new CMS (after creating a SIA node on the new CMC)

Is this normal?

In that case, I feel that the SIA and CMS are up.

  • Prefer to use, CCM >> manage servers to login and check if all platform servers are up and functional.

  • You can opt to download and install the tomcat from the Tomcat website

Index of /dist/tomcat/tomcat-7

  • Once installed Deploy the Web application to this Tomcat using the , Wdeploy GUI utility.

I am worried that its not one of the main servers in the Landscape.

** Please use Sandbox environment as the Side by side setup is not supported according to BI Install guides

The CCM for BI 4.1 would be different. I am guessing that you are looking at 3.1 CCM

Navigate to BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0/win64_x64/

Find and execute SvcMgr.exe to see if the SIA and the tomcat is listed

One has to take note of the Ports that needs to be assigned during the 4.1 installation, as the SIA(6410), CMS(6400), Tomcat (8080/8009/8005) are the defaults and has to be changed while performing side-by-side setup
