Shared Variables impact on Crystal Performance

I have a single result set in main report (XML format). I want to use the same in my 20+ subreports in order to avoid multiple connections and DB calls.

But, I will have to make around 85 shared variables.

Please let me know what can be the performance impact?

I'm not too sure if anyone would have tried something on this scale yet!

Have you tried creating a report that actually points to a datasource (all subreports pointing to their respective resultsets) vs one with shared variables?

Well, I was supposed to, I do have existing one with 20 subreports and all pointing to their data set/stored proc.

I will create one with shared variable, build that requires lot of work and I have project deadlines as well.

I moved your post to the Report Design forum to see if they know....

A few questions, why are you trying to avoid the subreport connections to your XML file?

IS 85 variables the max, if you expect more or huge amounts of data then likely you may run into memory issues.
