Changing Depreciation Key in the Depreciation Area - Module Asset

Hi peolple,

Sorry, I don´t know the Module Asset very well and I would like a suggestion from you.

We have for the same Asset more the one Depreciation Area, like: IFRS and COLGAAP.

We have the follow request:

For the same Asset, we have to stop the depreciation from now on to a Depreciation Area IFRS, "but", for another Depreciation Area we have to still with the depreciation.

We already know that one of the option is make the update in the "Depreciation Key", put a fleg in the field "Shutdown"  (we would have to create a different depreciation key to update the depreciation area).

So we would have: One Depreciation key with the "Shutdown" and another one without the "Shutdown".

Based on that, we read about some impacts, maybe we can lose our historical information, specialy if we have to cameback the old Depreciation Key again.

Could you tell us the real impact if we make the above situiation?

Could you tell us some other option?

Thanks,

RGN

It would not impact your historical information. Shutdown would only stop your depreciation calculation.

You need to configure the depreciation key in order to allow to shutdown. (Transaction Code AFAMA)

In order to mass change the asset, you can use LSMW, may be the following guide is handy.

In future you can stop the shutdown, then the depreciation would be calculated as usual.

Hope this helps.

Hi, thank you for your return!

You told us maybe it wo´n´t give us impacts, but the situation is:

We need to update the Depreciation Area with a new Depreciation Key.

It is not only update a Depreciation Key.

For this reason we "think" we could have problem with historical data.

Could you confirm to us if you see this impact too considering that we will create a new depreciation key to update out depreciation area that already have depreciation moviments.

Thanks,

RGN.

If you are changing with a new depreciation key, which has different base method, periodic controls and multi level method, then the depreciation would be recalculated.

As you have asked to stop the depreciation, then best thing is to shut them down.

You need to test the scenarios in a test system. It would be difficult to give a concrete answer without look at the system.
