COGS with Account-based CO-PA

I have implemented CO-PA many times, but only costing-based. At my current client, a decision has been taken to implement account-based CO-PA only.

I am wondering what I should do with the COGS account, in this case. With costing-based I would not create a Cost Element, but with account-based , am I correct in thinking a Cost Element is required for COGS?

Should it be Category 1 or 12?

Are there any other settings required so that it will then post to a Profitability Segment automatically, rather than a Cost Centre or other cost object, for example, in OKB9?
