EDI and idoc record

we have EDI type MATMAS5, DESADV, should every IDOC file contain one record or more records? or which is the determination factor that one IDOC file to have more than one records.

HI Siva,

It completely depends on the requirement. If the receiver non sap system needs data in single file for shipment data (DESADV) then you can club the idoc. If Non sap system sending multiple idoc data into PI in single file then that can be converted into multiple unique IDoc in PI system . So as I mentioned check requirement.

Records can be one or multiple as per requirement.

I asked one of my friends, he said one EDI file normally contains 20-50 records, that means generated 20-50 idoc number, never has he encountered one EDI file one IDOC, is this true?

This vary from case to case so it is not always true. In our landscape we have single IDoc scenario as well. Search on SCN you will get many more scenario.
