Hello Sharonlz,
one small correction: the correct URL to Note #1557674 is: http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1557674 (the previous URL is useless).
Sorry about the confusion.
Best regards,
Laszlo

Hello Laszlo,
Thank you for your notes. Its really helpful.
But we also need a font type from SAP , in order to print it to my printer ?
Based on the printer support said, due to my SAP OS was AIX7.1, which they may not supported. they only supported Win OS, which It make me confuse again..

Sharonlz
Hello Sharonlz,
for printing barcodes usually no separate fonts are needed.
The previous Note (#1557674) mentions that barcode fonts can not be used for 2D barcodes. The reason is a technical one: 2D barcodes can not be built up by barcode fonts.
Therefore, the available solutions for AIX 7.1 are: DIMM/SIMM module, new barcode technology (with an upgraded R/3 system), or the ADS can be considered.

Hello Sharonlz,
btw, forget about using fonts for a complex 2-D barcode like Datamatrix. For 1-D barcodes, fonts can be a solution.
There is a Datamatrix ECC200 implementation for SAPscript/SmartFOrms in standard SAP, but it is pretty recent and your system probably does not yet have it. Check out note

Related notes 2029589 and 2029824
explain how to downport this to certain older releases.
And if you are using SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe (IFbA), this newer forms tool should support generating Datamatrix Barcodes out of the box.
Best regards,
Alex

If you are a large company, consider the use of an enterprise output management (EOM) system. Such systems take spool output from SAP over BC-XOM (SAP 4.0C and onwards), and can enhance the content, delivering page level feedback about the print status back to SAP visible in SP01. Typically you will use the SAPGOFU SAP device type , and use the transform technology in the EOM to create the correct output stream for the end device (PDL). It means you have placed an abstraction layer between the hardware (printers) and the software (applications systems creating output). For large customers such an abstraction is advantageous, as it removes the requirement for output problems and set up to be dealt with by experts (like SAP Basis), rather, this work can be moved to cheaper personel. In addition as SAP drivers are not being used, application spool server cycles for formatting can be offloaded to a cheaper platform, and there are no driver (device type), Platform, or SAP release based restrictions. Finally, no SIMMS/DIMMS are required as the EOM will achieve the required PDL using its own software.
I "declare an interest" as I work for a company producing EOM systems 😉 ...

Hello Sharonlz,
this question would have a better place in the http://scn.sap.com/community/output-management space, as printing-related questions as discussed there.
Anyway, to answer your question: https://css.wdf.sap.corp/sap/support/notes/1557674 shows how barcodes can be printed from R/3:

I am really curious when the time comes that the SAP employees will know that the links starting with https://css.wdf.sap.corp/...
are not accessible by the normal folks from outside.Countless KBA have such links that cannot be opened.
it has to start with http://service.sap.com/
it has to be http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1557674
