Maximum Field length for field EXTERNAL_ID

Hi Guys

In ECC we are implementing the Long Material Number under DIMP for A&D which now enables the use of a 40 character material number.

The question is will SAP Sourcing 10 be able to handle a 40 character material number?

The External_ID field for a material can be up to 50 characters.  (per the Reference material)

Thanks for the input.

We have enabled the long material number industry function and the material number appears in all places in ECC as 40 characters (based on the Manufacturer Part Number). Wanted a confirmation on the following:

1. Does the standard interface from ECC for material (MATMAS05) that CLM uses automatically reflect the MATNR as the 40 character number using some conversion exit or if the standard interface needs to be changed to map to the MATNR_EXTERNAL field instead?

2. If latter, and if we lose the internal number of the material in CLM, when we push line items with the external number back to ECC in outline agreements and purchase orders, would ECC reconcile the internal number and create the documents? Or do we have to modify the standard interfaces for outline agreements and purchase orders to accommodate the internal number?

Any inputs on this is much appreciated.
