If need manually execute 'SAPCPE' for sync the kernel on all Instances

Hello Experts,

We plan to upgrade kernel 720_REl 300 to kernel 721_EXT 300 on all SAP instances.

I plan to only stop the CI first and upgrade the new kernel files to global directory '/sapmnt/<SID>/exe' , and then manually execute 'SAPCPE' on other dialog instances to sync the kernel files as below:

cd /usr/sap/<SAPSID>/<INSTANCE>/work

sapcpe pf=/usr/sap/<SAPSID>/SYS/profile/<instance profile>

Is it right ?

do I need stop SAP on other dialog instances first and then execute 'SAPCPE' on all DI ?

or 'SAPCPE' will automatically executed and don't need execute by manual ?

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael

Could you share your CI & DI OS details, I will tell you detail steps how you can upgrade the SAP kernel (without SAPCPE command).

Hi Michael,

If your CI and DI on two different OS platform , then you need to do kernel upgrade for CI and DI separately.(Heterogeneous scenario)

In that case your sapcpe will not work.

- If your CI and DI is on the same OS platform then sapcpe will resync the binaries in all the instances.

- Before running the command stop all the instances.

Ok.. let me answer to query correctly.

Don't execute this manually and stop all DI's

or 'SAPCPE' will automatically executed and don't need execute by manual ?

It should do the job automatically when the system is restarted, if things like profiles are mounted correctly.

In case it fails, you need to do it manually.

If you have a heterogeneous env:

Hi Michael,

Before running the command, plz stop the other Dialog instances on the Systems and also take one copy of backup for the existing EXE files and after that run the SAPCPE command.

Once the Command run is completed, Check the R3Trans status, and if it is Ok. Start the instace again.

Hi Michael

After copied all the new kernel files just do the full system restart and start the SAP instance, you no need to execute the command by manually. during the start-up time it will compare the old and new kernel, copy the new kernel required folder by automatically

In case user is using the command manually, he need to do follow as shared in my 1st reply.

Otherwise, everyone know, sapcpe is the program that sync binaries at the time of start of SAP system.

In case user is executing the command manually.

That is what I've share with the user.

There are cases when you need to run SAPCPE manually for any reason.

Yes the command usage is correct.

Also, you need to stop the system before issuing this command.
