Dear All,

What authorization is require for a user to add responsible resource at various project elements? e.g. Phase, Checklist, Task etc . as like to change status of task , filling actual start/finish date for the same 'write ' authorization is required to respected Task. Same way what authorization is require at project level to add resources at various project elements? In addition to that what is the difference between 'Staffing manager' and 'Res. Management' in authorization tab in various project elements.

Hi Alex,

Any activity apart from filling actual start/finish or changing status or uploading documents requires admin authorization, either at the project definition level or at the next level project elements. The values in the 'Responsible Role' & 'Responsible Resource' are listed from the Project roles & Staffing created under 'Resources' tab.Once project roles are created with staffing, you will be able to assign the same in basic data tab of the project.

Answering to your other question:

Resource Management - Allows you to search & assign resources to the project.

Staffing Manager - With this authorisation, system displays all project roles with 'Resource manager via authorisation' staffing type in the worklist of the external resource management application or PPM-Resource management-->Staffing overview fast entry screens, so that resources can be assigned to them.

And moreover, these authorizations are available only at the project definition level.

Thanks Ravi on your instant reply onto this. So if user want to add resources to the Project it means he will require Admin authorization right ? Or Providing write authorization at project level will it allow the user to add resource to project and other project elements?

Yes Alex.. User needs to have admin authorisation to do resource management activities. Providing write authorization won't help for adding resources.

In case user wants to add resource at phase level and he has admin authorization at phase level then will he able to do that ?

Second scenario where user has write authorization and one user which has the admin authorization and user with admin authorization has recruited resources. So, will user with write authorization will able to assign task to these recruited resources ?

However, at an extreme point if we want allow user with write authorization at project level to add resource to the project is there any BADI/User-Exit is available ? If yes please provide some information of the same.

Hi Alex,

Scenario 1 : Yes.

If user has admin authorisation at phase level, then automatically admin authorisation is inherited to the next level tasks, sub-tasks, checklists etc. and in-turn he will be able to do all those activities of admin at next level also.

Scenario 2 : As explained earlier, write authorisation will not allow assignment of resources..

In PPM, write authorizations are generally meant for confirmation of tasks & checklists. And in general task assignment/resource addition to project is carried out by project manager/planner or resource manager. If we provide those rights to 'write authorisation' users then there will be lot of resource managers which is not recommended for a good project management.

I have not come across any BADi to accommodate this requirement, you may look at the list of BADi's available for PPM.
