HANA Scale-out MCOS

Former Member

Hello Experts,

We would like to install a BW ABAP system on our scale-out HANA appliance which has also another BW system installed on it. We are trying to achieve a MCOS setup on our HANA appliance

We would like to have your feedback if this would be feasible and what would be the drawbacks and advantages in applying this setup.

Also, we would like to ask if MDC (Multi-Tenancy Database Containers) is applicable or can be configured for MCOS once SPS 9 has been released

Rgards,

Manuel

Hi Manuel, All,

Is this possible? We have a similar scenario as well.

We want to go for MCOS for our non production system and scale out at the same time.

1. Is it possible?

2. If it is possible, can we do different node size configuration across the boxes?

Thanks for your response.

Hi Ranjeet,

Yes it is possible ,

Please check below S & W for MCOS setup.

Strengths

  • Only one HANA system and one OS required
  • HANA software can be individually maintained per DB instance
  • Dedicated memory assignment per instance

Weaknesses

  • Shared HANA hardware – risk of performance issues since no dedicated CPU                                        assignment per instance
  • No separate Service Level Agreements on database level

Please check below sap note as well.

Hi Atul,

Thanks a lot for your express response!

Just to add in and sum up, we can say that

1. HANA supports MCOS with scale up setup.

-> Like in our scenario, we have non production where in we have 3 DEV, QA and QA1 and we have 3 boxes with 7 TB in total.

-> QA and QA1 are sized more than 2.5 GB and will be scaled out and similarly DEV will be sized less.

2. So, this we can confirm that this scenario (MCOS + Scale up) is very much possible.

3. For the memory allocation, it can be done as per the box size right, and it can be different across different nodes. Like I can have DEV assigned with say 256,256 and 512? That should be fine right?

Thanks again for your response.
