I have checked all the owner ship and permission for SAP server , still no luck.

All the other APP server's are up just this app server is down .

Please help me to bring up the server.

Higly appreciate  your inputs.

Unable to open trace file sapstartsrv.log. (Error 13 Permission denied) [ntservsserver.cpp 3533]

Try removing the files sapstartsrv.log* and then restart SAP.

If possible list all the files under /home/<SID>adm and delete all the stream files under /tmp

Check if sapstartsrv is running :

ps ef | grep sapstartsrv

If not running try starting manually. How to --> you can get this from above command.

Hi,

Even after I have loop back address in /etc/hosts, I am still facing the issue.

127.0.0.1       localhost       loopback

Any other things that I need to check. Problem I face is very similar to Pradeep's problem.

Hi Prithviraj,

1) I dont find sapstartsrv.log in /home/<SID>adm path..any other path?

2) startsap_ASCS00.log file contents as below. Not much useful.

3)

I have the localhost entry in my /etc/hosts file.

Even though localhost entry in /etc/hosts..taking from files, getting the localhost not found issue as below:

NiSrvLGetServNo: service name 'sapctrl00' not found by operating system

NiInit3: NI already initializes (init=1;cur=2048)

***LOG Q0I=> NiPGetHostByName: 'localhost' not found: getaddrinfo [niuxi.c 1759]

NiHLGetNodeAddr: hostname 'localhost' not found by operating system

Added the nsswitch.conf as below.

<Hostname>:s11adm 73> cat /etc/nsswitch.conf

hosts:  files [NOTFOUND=continue TRYAGAIN=continue]     dns

ipnodes:        files [NOTFOUND=continue TRYAGAIN=continue] dns

After adding, it worked fine and my SAP instance is up

It is a weird one as I did not use nsswitch.conf before and all these days it used to worked.

This time nsswitch was needed.

NOTE: OS=HPUX in this case.

The log file should be in work directory.

Good to hear you solved the issue. Thanks for sharing

Hi Pradeep

Is that user is having administrator / admin privilege to access the local system?

Hi,

Start sapstartsrv for this instance using sapcontrol.

Before that delete stream files in /tmp file system.

If it doesn't start, share it's logs.

Also useful information would be kernel versions and patch levels, if you recently tried an upgrade of the kernel, etc etc.  Possible log files attached (not pasted to avoid long scrolls) of the sapstartsrv in the work directory.

Hi Pradeep,

Run the below command manually

/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run/sapstartsrv pf=/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/profile/<start or instance profile>

Paste the output of above command

You will get the exact error. It might be permission issue on your disk.
