Benefits using GRC on HANA

Hello,

as far as I understand HANA can be used as the DB platform for GRC 10.1 but is not mandatory. I would like to know the main benefits using GRC applications on HANA and why tools like Access Control, Process Control or Risk Management should be run on HANA.

Tanks in advance

Hi Arnaud,

Yes, GRC 10.1 can be run on HANA as well. You have to create a connector and set the connection type as HDB (HANA Database) in Maintain Connectors and Connection Types first. Make sure you have HANA database plug-in installed as mentioned in GRC 10.1 installation guide which will enable Access controls to run with SAP HANA as DB and optimizes some of the High volume processes to take advantage of SAP HANA.

SAP HANA user provisioning to use SAP HANA-based applications.

Access to assignment of users on SAP HANA (Analytical Privileges and Roles)

Perform risk analysis for SAP HANA-based authorizations to avoid SoD conflicts

Using GRC 10.1 on HANA platform will help immensly mainly for ARA (access risk analysis)

SAP Access Control 10.1 has been enhanced and expanded. It now comes with a common standard  ABAP platform leveraging SAP NetWeaver 7.40 SP 02 that provides the option to run on the SAP HANA  database.

In nutshell, the best advantage of running GRC applications is, Reporting will be faster so would be the outputs.

Hope this is clear.

Hi Arnaud,

Firstly, 10.0 has not been optimized to run HANA as the DB Platform. (Although rumours for this integration are about with the possibility to include this optimization in a future foundation SP).

HANA can be used as the DB platform for GRC 10.1 as this optimization is one of the new enhanced features available from SAP. However, as you understood this is not mandatory to run HANA as DB but rather an available option for customers to choose from.

The second point is to clarify that regardless of whether your DB platform on the GRC system is HANA DB or not, you can still connect your GRC system to other HANA DB's to extract information, provision access, or to use for the analytic capabilities.

Please note that the advantages for using HANA are not just limited to the faster speeds of running a risk analysis & extracting information, but extend to the all new reporting capabilities available for AC, PC & RM.

Please go through this SAP insider Q&A link as you will get more information on this topic.
