Dynamic Physical Memory on SAP servers

Hi Team,

I am just wondering about your views on dynamic memory in the SAP servers - Recently from our Servers experts, they have informed that we planned to make all our virtual servers is going to be on Dynamic Memory.

From my understanding, with their explanation : Below are the points

1. Whenever memory is needed more than 4GB in the server, memory will be increased based on the requirement (So when I look into the server, could see that server has 4GB but actually it was assigned 16GB in the server)

2. By this way the resources can be utilised across the ESX machines based on the requirement

My questions are

1. Any benchmarks or anyone following it up already in there landscape, if so what is the minimum level you are maintaining it?

2. Couple of times I been doing a restart of the systems , and couple of SAP SMP files got crashed and hence we been working with SAP on such things. We are wondering is anywhere related to the concept of Dynamic memory.

So - anyone have an idea about it, Please enlighten us with your views

Regards

Vijay

Hi Vijay,

SAP strongly recommends to use "memory reservation" and do not over commit memory on virtualized environments,
