Unbalanced background load distribution in SAP batch servers

Hello,

We are having 5 application servers (Say for Example - ERP1, ERP2, ERP3, ERP4 and ERP5) with 30 BG work process each. (Back. WP Class A - 5 on each application server)

We have maintained 4 job server groups (PUBLIC, SAP_DEFAULT_BTC, DEFAULT and SPACE). We have included all the 5 application servers in all the batch server groups

I see all the Released jobs in the system are defined in either of the Target Servers we defined in the Job server Group

We still see the load distribution is not equal between servers.

Every day we are seeing that the load on ERP4 is almost three times when compared riple to other application servers.

The rest of the application servers are alsmot sharing the same load with or 10 jobs in count.

Below is for one day i have pasted

ServerLong Running Jobs countShorter Jobs count
ERP1814747
ERP2934437
ERP3612911
ERP42279061
ERP5542598

Legend:

Long Running Jobs = Job duration more than 15 minutes

Shorter Jobs = Job duration less than 15 minutes

Any suggestion what to check ond find out why a singlw application server is overloaded?

Thanks,

Subbu

Hello Subbu,

you can check the following notes, if the notes can be applied in your case:

1530713 - Improved load balancing
1508504 - Load balancing in background processing

Hi Subbu

1.  In this five one of the server will as CI along with DB instance?

2. You can check the statistic by using the transaction code ST03 / ST03N

Hello Sriram,

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry, i didnt quiet get what do you mean.

1. FYI - None of the 5 application servers is a CI or having DB installed on it

2. I already checked ST03N and found out the #steps for application server ERP4 is high, however i couldnt get the reason for executing more steps on it compared to others.

Please suggest what to check and find out the reason?

Thanks,

Subbu

Hi Subbu

1.  You can check the number of active users session in ERP4 and all other systems?

2. Over all usage of the ERP4 system in ST03 /ST03N Work process usage? Same thing for all other application servers.
