PI upgrade path?

Hi folks - we have a system called "GRP" that is running NW702 that is an ABAP-only stack w/ components as follows:

COMPONENT                      RELEASE    EXTRELEASE

GRCFND_A                       V1000      0010

GRCPINW                        V1000_700  0010

PI_BASIS                       702        0009

SAP_ABA                        702        0009

SAP_BASIS                      702        0009

SAP_BW                         702        0009

ST-A/PI                        01Q_700    0000

ST-PI                          2008_1_700 0007

We also have a central XI/PI box called "XIP" that is NW740-based dual stack install.

For a certain project we need a system w/ PI Content SLL-NFE 10.0 addon installed - and a prereq for this is having a PI installation (ref. note 1783317) that is PI 7.0 EHP2 or greater.  The XIP support team does not want to allow us to install the PI Content SLL-NFE 10.0 addon because they say it is based on older technology (ccBPM).  They are reluctant to put anything in place on this central PI box that relies on this older ccBPM technology, in fear that it would impede them to upgrade the PI box down the road to newer versions/etc (potentially to those that need only a JAVA stack)

QUESTIONS

1) So since we can't use XIP for PI Content SLL-NFE 10.0 addon, we want to instead install it on the GRP box.  But before we could do that, we'd have to get GRP upraded to be a PI system 1st.  And I'm unclear how to go about that.  I suspect @ easiest, we would just install some sort of XI/PI Business Content on GRP.  But really not sure.  Appreciate any guidance anyone can offer.

2) Is the guidance our XIP support team gave valid?  Would putting that add-on on that box really impede our ability to upgrade that to newer version (potentially that need only a JAVA stack)?

Thanks

Hi Ben,

PI Content for SAP NFE 10.0 also supports AEX Configuration for ccBPM replacement.

Maybe this could be an option to maintain PI Content on XIP without using ccBPM.

SAP Note 1743455 describes the scenarios configuration.
