Dear Experts,

I have upgraded the Oracle 10g to 11g after that Offline backup was failing, but online with redo-logs was successful.

Please suggest i have been trying to sort it out since 3 days.

Weird. It looks like it started the database but then could not run SQLPLUS commands. Does SQLPLUS work okay from the command line? Are you able to start and stop the DB using just brtools?

Can you provide the spi files mentioned above?

Thanks!

Hello Hari,

Could you please check the permissions on sapbackup folder.

Hi Hari Babu,

In my opinion, the root cause of the problem is related to the permissions. Please see the line which points to this:

SQL> csh : The file access permissions do not allow the specified action.

The reasons which come to my mind:

1-Oracle startup log could not be written.

2-There is something wrong with rights of the directory /oracle/BIP/sapbackup.

Waiting for your feedbacks,

Serhat

Hi Hari,

Please refer to SAP note 655240 -"Composite SAP note: ORA-01033" for possible reasons and solutions.

Hi Hari,

Its better to take offline backup from brtools at OS level.

Its not a good practice to take a offline backup from DB13.

Hi Hari,

You can schedule a job with the help of crontab at os level which will run every weekend.

I think its will be best!!!

Hi Hari,

1) Please update latest disp+work separately

2) Have you update the oracle client to 11g ?

Hello Ashutosh

Do you have any reference that tells it is not recommended to perform offline backup from DB13.

I've never heard/read about such recommendation.

Thanks

Hi Yves,

Please check the last line of the sapnote 427982 - DB6: Offline backup ends with job error (DB13)

Though it give information for DB2

Hello Ashutosh

I was not aware of it... but it's an old note and only relevant for DB2.

When using Oracle there are no recommendations against running offline backups from DB13,

and there are no problems doing so either.

Thanks

Yves
