SAP Best Practices about Storage Locations

Hello Guys,

I just want to ask what SAP best practices are,  can we have storage locations in different states, for example our plant is in New Jersey and we want to have storage locations in New York, Miami and LA is there any restriction by sap to have storage location within certain distance.

what would be the best solution for this requirement other than warehouse management system.

Dear khawar , There is no restrictions by sap to have Storage location in min or max distance, as per the business requirement once goods is manufactured then they will store this Fg goods in storage location then at the time of dispatch this storage location will issue the goods and it will decrease the inventory qty . If storage is in the premises of plant  then there is no restrictions from govt ,if storage location is apart then plant premises then while shifting the FG goods to storage location from plant,you have to move with some Challanh to show the govt that this goods are are not selling to customer and it is for internal movement. Kindly discuss with business side for certain statutory rules to follow for moving goods to storage location. Regards, C.B Reddy.

Before answering your query,  you have to explain the business process and the local statutory restrictions. You also have take into consideration in practical, manufacturing in one state and storing in another state is allowed or not as per local government rules.  In SAP, whatever you want, you can configure; but you also need to analyse the pros and cons from Business perspective

SAP does not restrict use of storage location within distance. You could use storage location if you have a simple storage warehouse there.
