Lumira product in BO environment?

Hi All, I am looking for clarification regarding Lumira Product.

In regular scenario there is client and server(on HANA) components for Lumira product. It works as a standalone product without any problems.

Also I see there is a Business Objects addon for Lumira to view Lumira models/visualizations in BO BI. From BO standpoint, is that enough to have Lumira product in a company that already has BO BI installation?

or do we need Lumira server on HANA compulsorily to view Lumira models in BO/BI Launch Pad through addon?

Thank you very much!

Hi,

Yes, Lumira Server does have a dependency on HANA Platform. See info here:  http://scn.sap.com/community/lumira/blog/2014/09/15/how-sap-lumira-server-runs-on-sap-hana

Lumira Server is required for the use of the BI Platform Add On, therefore HANA behind the scenes.

However, there has been a recent announcement that SAP are developing a non-HANA based version of Lumira Server, for small to medium enterprises (like an 'EDGE' version, using BO naming): http://scn.sap.com/community/lumira/blog/2014/09/25/the-sap-lumira-roadmap--asug-businessobjects-con...

Evidently, this would not support as high a data capacity as a HANA-based solution, but it will be a viable option for many customers with smaller data sizes and less 'in memory' requirements.

in parallel, HANA is evaluating commodity hardware usage, for less configuration expense. some info can be found here: http://www.saphana.com/community/blogs/blog/2014/08/12/cost-optimized-sap-hana-infrastructure-requir...

Another option could be to lease HANA as a cloud-based platform, and host Lumira Server there . I talk about this here: http://scn.sap.com/message/15401982#15401982

Regards,
H
