Hi everyone
I am using SUM tool to spply SPS in QA system. I arrived at step "Lock Development Environment". I am not sure what happens at this step exactly. Is it possible to proceed and still apply transports in the system if required? Will it impact the process? Where do I find details about this in SAP documentation.
Thanks.
Hi,
What happens here and why?
SUM tool prepares to take a snapshot of the current system for the DBCLONE step.
So, in a nutshell this is your FROZEN image of current system, on which you apply the SPS.
Technically, it applies the locksys, and lock_eu, analyses run on the image and shadow copy created.
No more Transports into the "QA" (in your case) system, for obvious reasons, that it will invalidate the analyses and checks.
Exceptions from this point on.
Until the Shadow is created and run, you will need to explicitly "unlock" to fix any issues, should there be any. [And SUM will throw an error, mostly in REPACHK.... phase].
Special procedure to import updated Change Transport, listed in the SUM documentation.
Hope this helps..

I have gone through all these messages and have seen conflicting opinions. Unfortunately, I did not see teh refrenced SAP documentation. I do not seem to see anything clear enough. SAP note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1901463 gives the procedure to do so.
My question is: If I start, and for whatever the reason is, have to apply a transport after I already completed the DBCLOE; is there a way/procedure to apply that in both shadow and original instances? Of course no one will do so unless there is a SEV1 incident in prod and we need to test the transport.
The note is providing the solution to unlock the system (primary/shadow) in emergency situations. If you are stuck with the upgrade and if you want to implement some corrections into the system you need to unlock the system.
Technically it is possible to bring in transport by interrupting the upgrade and unlocking the system and transporting the requests.
The other option is to setup the "dual maintenance" option if there is a need to do transports during an upgrade to the production system.
For more information check the SUM guide.
