Understanding the functionality in "Vendor hierarchy".

We are in the process of implementing ECC 6.0 and the chemicals add on SAP BBP chemicals V1.6. Can anyone elaborate more on the usage of Vendor hierarchy? Is it possible to use vendor hierarchy without using the IS retail solution?

We want to configure the following relationship between vendors. Parent-Child relationship is the relation that exists between a company and its subsidiaries. This relationship will need to be reflected, for example, in aggregated spend reports, e.g. Example: Degussa AG (Parent Company) and Peroxide-Chemie (Child Company).

Is this possible to meet using vendor hierarchy?
