Three Instances - Business Objects XI v3.1 - SP5, SP5 & SP3

It has been requested that we upgrade our Business Objects servers in order to meet new security regulations.

The issues are the three versions of Apache Tomcat.

Both SP5 installations are running on unsupported Tomcat version 5.5

Whilst SP3 is running on an older unsupported Tomcat version.

We need to upgrade to a minimum of Tomcat 6, which can be done on the two SP5 environments as it supports Tomcat 6. Are there any major known issues as a result of this upgrade?

SP3 does not support Tomcat 6, and as a result we will need to upgrade BOXI SP also. Is it required to upgrade SP3 > SP4 > SP5 or can we go from SP3 to SP5?

In which order do the upgrades need to take place? Would we first upgrade Tomcat to 6 and then go about upgrading BOXI v3.1 to SP5?

Thanks in advance,

Craig.

Hi Craig,

You can install XI 3.1 SP5 patch directly on XI 3.1 SP3.

Update the patch first and then install tomcat 6 and deploy the warfiles.

Once done, install Tomcat 6 and manually deploy the warfiles to Tomcat 6.

You can use wdeploy or tomcat manager to deploy the war files. Please refer to KB 1308046 for deploying WAR files through tomcat manager.

You may also want to consider upgrading your XI 3.1 to SP6 or higher and SAP will automatically upgrade your Tomcat from 5.5 to version 7.

Hope this helps!

Mihir
