How to connect DMS to the Solution Manager

Hi,

I have a DMS system in our SAP Landscape.

I like to monitor this system in our Solution Manager.

After installation and registration of the DAA agent in the Solution Manager I can see the host, but I do not see the DMS or the SAP MAX DB.

How do I configure this?

thanks in advance,

Beni

Hi,

just a short update.

I installed the MAX DB Client 7.9 and changed the DBSL file.

After I replaced the files in the Kernel the system did not start any more.

(later I replaced the Kernel with the 'old' one and the system is ok now).

I believe I installed the wrong MAX DB client. To correct this I was looking (as in SAP Note suggested) in the uninstall configuration of the server, but there is no uninstall entry for the MAX DB Client.

Any chance that someone experienced the same?

thanks,

Beni

Beni,

What do you mean when you say

"installed the MAX DB Client 7.9 and changed the DBSL file.

After I replaced the files in the Kernel the system did not start any more."

You just had to copy the file dbmssslib.dll to your kernel and restart. No need to change anything else in the kernel, not a single file.

Also Maxdb client doesn't interfere with a running system in anyway.

Thanks

Follow this SAP note 325402 - dbadaslib/dbsdbslib: How do I apply a patch? to download and put the DBSL file for MaxDB

To uninstall the MaxDB software follow this SAP note 599129 - Uninstalling SAP MaxDB/SAP DB software using SDBUNINST

Hi Beni,

Check out two of my documents in SAP Maxdb community to do this for MaxDB.

Also if you are using SAP content server on windows then you can monitor the application also, check out this note.

1895715 - System Monitoring Setup for SAP CONTENT SERVER

My DMS is running on linux/unix , and I can't see any technical monitoring templates provided in Solman to monitor it.I am on SP10 for Solman 7.1.

Even if you can't setup monitoring for Content server application, you can set it up for Maxdb as described in my documents.

Thanks and Regards

Amit

Hi Amit,

first of all the documents are very helpful!

Our Solution Manager 7.1 is a Windows and MSSQL Sever installation.

I installed the MAXDB client and downloaded the MaxDB Database Library.

If I understand you I have to copy them into the Kernel directory. But this would replace the MSSQL Database Library?

Can you help me to understand this issue?

Thanks,

Beni

Hi Beni,

You need to check below note.

1747109 - DBA: Include All DBSLs in SAPEXEDB.SAR

Make sure you are above PL400 for your release 720 of kernel.

Hi Beni,

No,  copying the the maxdb library will not replace the mssql library. they have different names as below. Download the SAR file and uncar it. same goes with libraries of other databases.

You can safely copy it to the kernel.

dbmssslib.dll       MSSQL library (for windows)

dbsdbslib.dll       MaxDB library (for windows)

Thanks

Amit

The DBSL files have different naming conventions.

You need to deploy MaxDB client software and also the DBSL for MaxDB and restart the SAP system. Create a connection in Tx DB59 to the target MaxDB system and configure CCMS monitoring.

Check the SAP note 1371928 - DBA Cockpit: SAP MaxDB/liveCache as remote database

If you want to any database in solman, you need to add this is DBACOCKPIT.

For connecting any remote database, DBSL in required on solman for that target system.

You can create the entry in DBCON and test from there. Alsom you can create entry directly in DBACOCKPIT and add the database, provided the system is reachable and ports are open.

You should start from - 1027146 - Database administration and monitoring using the DBA Cockpit

In addition to this, agents used will monitor you MaxDB host using technical monition.

You can also use the OLD CCMS to monitor MAX and generate an alert in case of any failure.

Do google with content server lmdb and check the 1st link. If that works share it here.
