HI Vinayaka,

SOA is the new Industry buzz word which brings to light the increasing focus/shift from a Product orientation to Service Orientation. The focus is on fulfulling the business needs through specialised Services rather than ready-made software products.

For example, consider calling a service online for converting your Word Document to PDF format instead of having a product which will convert your Word Doc to PDF.

so,

--> as & when there is business need, the Services are called & utilised. A whole new architecture comes up when companies take on the SOA initiative. IBM, Oracle & now SAP are all heavily investing on SOA with many major intiatives.

So, Coming to the Future, to put it simply the Future belongs to SOA.

this is the simple way to put it in words, but some Googling to find more....

Hi Vinayaka,

I have recently completed a small project which was a somewhat implementation of SOA. While working on that project, I have always heard things like you are working on something which is the future. Its very good for you. In the future everything is going to be based on services and all. There is lot of scope in SOA. I think all this can give you a hint that there is nothing to be worried about. You are going to be working on a very good technology.

See the following threads for some quick info on what exactly is SOA, and some good links:
