How Serial Number profile is maintained in SPRO?

the problem is the matrial gone outside ,with serial number

but when the material comes in it allows to take any serial number and alow the maatrial to come to store

SPRO --> Sales and Distribution --> Basic Functions --> Serial Numbers --> Central Control Parameters For Serial Numbers / Determine Serial Number Profiles

SAP Easy Access --> Logistics --> Sales and Distribution --> Master Data --> Products --> Material -->

In Material Master: Sales General Plant Tab Page, you maintain the serial no profile.

i have two queries

1/what is the procedure and why we should give serial number to material

2/how serial number material go and come inside plant

3/ what are the tranction to trace the cost and stock of serial number
