BEx Variables as "Default Values" in Webi reports (BO 4.1 SP3)

Hello All,

We are on BO 4.1 SP3.

I have an issue where we have  Characteristic value Variables in Bex queries which have some "Default Values"  defined at BEx.

However these are not being treated as filters at Webi reports based on BICS Connection.

I have come across an SAP note :

1854601 - BEx Variables that were specified as "Default Values" are
no longer being treated as filte...

This note is applicable to Environment : SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform 4.0 SP04 - Patch 12

Has anyone faced this issue in 4.1 ?

Any inputs will be appreciated.

Hi Krupali,

Behavior you describe is normal, as explained in Web Intelligence user guide.

Variables configured in Default Values panel of BEx Query will not be leveraged anymore starting from BI4.0 SP04 Patch12; this fix is still valid in BI4.1 and all versions of product released after BI4.0 SP04 Patch12.

You should put this Variable in Characteristic Restriction panel if you want to filter effectively in BOE products.

Thank you for the update.

I was referring to the following article wherin Point no. 19 mentions

:

19) Default values given in BW Bex variables will work fine in BO WEBI aswell:

But it applies to BW 7.3SP4 and BO4.0SP4, as mentioned by you also.

That answers my question

Hi Loic,

However, there is one more query, I just noticed.

In the Webi Modify Mode -> Data Access tab -> Query Properties Menu,

we can see the BEx query variables/selections and the Default values maintained in the

BEx variables can be seen here.

Additionally, there is a check-box which allows you to check/uncheck one property :

'Use BEx Default values at report runtime'

Wonder why this is available to the user to check/uncheck, if we anyways cannot leverage

Variables configured in Default Values of BEx Query.

Hi Krupali,

This check box is about default value configured in a Variable, not about Variables put in Default Values panel of Query Designer.

A default value for a variable is what end-user will see as predefined when answering this variable for the first time, and a variable defined as Default Value for a Characteristic is a predefined filter for a Characteristic when using Bex Query.

You also have to take into account that "a Variable defined as a Default Value for a Characteristic can be itself configured with a default value".

My actual requirement is not about Variables put in Default Values panel of Query Designer.

It is actually about default value configured in a Variable which ,as I mentioned, can be seen in the query properties.

This did not filter the results for me at Webi.

I get your problem now, but it should work as you expect and it's not related to SAP Note 1854601.

If data in your report does not take into account filter coming from default answer to Variable then you have to check if there's not some other filter overriding answer from BW.

If you change default answer by something else does it work better or it's also not used as filter in query executed ?
