brbackup / brrestore - missing origlogA, origlogB, mirrlogA, mirrlogB (and some cntrl files)

Hello SAP techs.

We have run into an issue that has me really stuck.    In the past, we have never had issues restoring a system when needed.

This week however, we ran into an issue and had to restore DEV.

Upon compleation of our restore - we noticed that the following directories were left empty (and no files were backed up or restored on):

mirrlogA

mirrlogB

origlogA

origlogB

(and most of the control files).

Can someone tell us if this looks correct?  and if so, how do we ensure our mirrlogs and origlogs get backed up.

We are using online backups using brbackup / brrestore only.

Thank you everyone

Richard

Hi,

During Online Backup, only datafiles and controlfiles are backed up. No redo log files are backup.

Redo log files are backed up only during the Offline Backup.

If your redo logs are missing, you can recreate the same after restoring the database.

Hey, thanks guys,

We have restored on online backup...  (we do not use offline backups).

At this time, I'm more or less trying to get a solid understanding of how brbackups work (i.e. do we normally backup / restore origlogA-B  mirrlogA-B  - is there something were missing, or basically what the best way to use this tool is.

Thanks guys

Hi Sanjoy,

You may use brrestore -m 0 to restore control files and online redo log files from the backup.

Check the detailed backup logs to ensure whether online redo log files have been backed up or not.

Check whether there are offline redologs mentioned in the backup log.
