Batch Management

Can someone help me to understand as to what is the difference between:

Query 1:

A. Setting the field 'Batch status management' [t-code: OMCU] and

B. BaWU Synchronous posting [t-code: Batch where-used List].

Example:

For Plant A31, A32 and A40 Batch status management' [t-code: OMCU] is set and

For Plant A31, A32, A40, A45, A70 BaWU Synchronous posting [t-code: Batch where-used List] is set.

Would the batch be determined only for Plant A31, A32 and A40 ? and why the second setting is used.

Query 2:

As the material is set as 'Batch determination', why do we defined the Batch Status management as Plant level also

Query 3:

Say we maintain the class and characteristics for the batch and assign the same to material, how are these helpful. are these characteristics on the same line as what we have in variant configuration

Query 4:

what is the usage of Shelf Life Expiration Date (SLED?

Query 5:

How is the Sort Rules used in Batch Management, what is their usage.

Gauravjit.

Hi,

1.) Plant - can allow for the Batch Management Flag on a material sold out of 2 different plants to be set independently. Batch numbers can be used for multiple materials, and batch specifications and analytical results can be different for each batch (multiple batch Master records).

2.)Material - Batch Management flag is set the same for the material across all plants that use it. Batch numbers can be used for multiple materials, however, batch specification and analytical results are the same for the batch (one Batch Master Record).

3.) Client - Batch Management flag is set the same for material across all plants that use it. Batch number can only be used for one material across the client. (one Batch Master Record).

If the Batch level flag is set at the Client level, it allows for a batch number to be used with only one material throughout the entire SAP client. This is troublesome with products which are produced in bulk and then packaged into smaller size containers for sale. Due to the limitation of having only one batch number per material, when the product is packaged, new batch numbers have to be assigned to the finished packages, even though the same bulk material is being used inside the package. Because of this work-a rounds have been created and business processes adjusted to accommodate this restriction.

Hello Anil,

Example :

Batch Unique at Plant Level.[OMCE]

For Plant M001, batch management is active [t-code OMCU].

For Material, 'S001', batch management is set as 'Yes' in the material master record [Sales: General Plant Data] tab.

For Material, 'S002', batch management is set as 'No' in the material master record [Sales: General Plant Data] tab.

Now the query i have is how is material S001 and S002 which is present in plant M001 different, if any.

How the materials would behave in the sales order/delivery.

Also, say if there is another plant M002, for this plant batch management is not active, how would the material S001 and S002 behave when declared for this plant.

Regards,

Gauravjit.

Also, plant M001
