Database performance

On the EarlyWatch alert I have noticed that I have very big average "Time per Direct Read in Background task" (attachment)

1. What does this mean and what is the impact on system?

2. How can I fix this issue?

Thanks

Hi,

There are two types of read operation on any database - sequential read and direct read.

And transaction can be online or background.

Refer: - Response Times: Rough Guide - Tools for Monitoring the System - SAP Library

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response. On the link that you provided I couldn't find any explanation about direct read and how to improve the request time. At least the values are below threshold

The report itself suggest what to do in case tuning required. And the above was a rough guide for response time.

You can get database specific parameters and performance tuning notes on SMP and other sources and from EWA reports

And what exactly is the issue here ?

If your concern is about better response time then ignore that graph and review the information based on ST04 / DBACOCKPIT and ST03N.

The issue is that last week I have 3 times bigger direct time, so I am trying to find out what does it mean for the system

1. Is any one having direct access on the database level?

2. Over all disk space ? Could you share the OS /DB version details?

Hi, I don't have direct access to database. The overall disk space is 1200GB

Database ORACLE 11.2.0.2.0

For OS it says only Linux on System/Status.
