SAP BW database Shrinking

Hello All,

We are planning to perform database shrinking for both BW test and prod system.

The test system database size is around 50 GB and is sitting on 4 disk which is in total of 240 GB.

Same is the case with BW Prod system which is of size 170 GB sitting on 8 disk which is in total 720 GB.

Checked the database growth for

Test in last 5 months is on average 3 GB and for PROD it is around 4 GB per month.

So what would be the correct disk size we should leave for both the system after shrinking?

Regards,

Mohit

Hi Mohit

Kindly check the free space in database by using the transaction code ST04, then perform the shrink action during off peak time.

Hello SS,

Thanks for the message i know the shirking process.

My question how much space i should leave in individual disk after shrinking.

We will give new LUN of new size after shrinking.

Hi Mohit

It based on usage of DB,

1. Could you share screen shot  ST04 first page, for example i have attached the my one of server DB details

2. In ST04 - select space - history - DB Size history just check the database growth? with this you can calculate your DB

Hello SS,

Thanks for your input.

I have checked both the info. and provided the information initially.

For Test the database size is 50 GB distributed in 4 files and total disk size is 250 GB.

For Prod the database size is 170 GB distributed in 8 files and total disk size is 740 GB.

Hello Mohit,

Why do want to shrink your database?

If you have enough free space on your system, your DBAs will not have to worry about lack of space.

If you system is running on database SQL Server, check the following website:
