BRRESTORE Error BR0278E: Can't read input

Hi all

We are facing the following error when we are trying to restore our quality SAP server with a offline BRBACKUP (native backup over a tape) taken from a TSM backup facility onto a new server using BRRESTORE using HP Tape Drives.

The weird part is if we are lucky the restore does run after changing the tape drives a number of times. However we end up facing this error more often than ever. The error is the same after using a new tape / new backup for the restore.

Kindly provide any pointers that could help resolve this issue.

Hello,

Based on the provided information, the below issue was encountered:

<====>

BR0278E Command output of 'LANG=C cd /oracle/QXX/sapbackup && /usr/sap/QXX/SYS/exe/run/brtools -f detach LANG=C cpio -iuvC2048 .tap

Can't read input

If you want to go on, type device/file name when ready

/dev/tty: No such device or address

<====>

This indicates problems with the tape device either initialization issue or damaged tape/tape station:

1) The tape was not correctly initialized. In this case initialize it  as recommended in SAP note 10664

2) Hardware issue with the tape or tape station. More details in the SAP note 20574

Therefore please check tape and tape device. For more details, please also check SAP note 17163 (section BR0278E).

David

Hi Vinodh

1. Where you are going to restore the data target volume ready to use?

2. BR tool restore switch. refer the SAP help link
