What is the diff b/w Alert category in Java stack(Alert Configuration in RWB) and ABAP stack(ALRTCATDEF)?

When we will create the Alert Category in Abap and Java stacks?

Could you please explain it.

Both does the same.  If your messages are processed in dual stack you might want to do in the abap stack and set alert rules in RWB. If you configure your interface in AAE (java stack only) then you need to do in Java stack. There are good documents to config component based message alert configuration for 7.31 java stack in scn.  Please search for it
