What are IDoc's and Proxies?

Hi Guys,

As i'm totally new to SAP PI i want to know what are IDOC's and Proxies can somebody help where i can find these for a beginner level?

Proxies are executable interfaces that are generated for the target application like JAVA/ABAP.

(It is basically used to connect to ECC system without ICO.)

IDOCs are intermediate documents generally used to transfer data between SAP systems. They are similar to XMl files but syntactically are different.
