Upgrade NW 7.02 to 7.40 Install SCS Service

Dear All

I'm facing following Issue

Cannot install and start service for instance 1 on host sapnwj01. Could not run OS process sapstartsrv.exe for action install service. Could not start process D:\usr\sap\SID\SCS01\exe#####################################################################################################\sapstartsrv.exe. Error while executing process D:\usr\sap\SID\SCS01\exe#####################################################################################################\sapstartsrv.exe. java.io.IOException: CreateProcess error=2, The system cannot find the file specified java.io.IOException: CreateProcess error=2, The system cannot find the file specified

I found a wrong entry in JUP.J2EE.DataModel.xml - all profiles are fine.The path is definitely wrong. With executing Command line: D:\usr\sap\SBJ\SCS01\exe#####################################################################################################\sapstartsrv.exe -r -q -p D:/usr/sap/SBJ/SYS/profile/SBJ_SCS01_sapnwj01 -s SBJ -n 1 -U DOMAIN\SAPServiceSBJ -P <SecureField> -e DOMAIN\sbjadm

(without that many hashs) Service is starting, but installation is not going ahead.

Could you please help me??

Hi Patrick,

There will be .PAR file in SUM log directory. Kindly paste the content of .PAR file.

Also do let me know the SUM version you are using.

I cannot find any *.PAR File inside SUM Log folder.

I only find one zip File and a few log, ERR and OUT Files. PPR-File is nowhere..

Hi Patrick,

Problem is with the use of new kernel and it's parameters and variables used.

Did you check 2053815 - Error in Restart System for JAVA only system during upgrade

and the old thread linked above.

Yes I checked both the notes. Without those #'s Service starts. Somewhere is a mistake in path.. But I don't know how to fix this path again.

Hi Patrick,

Places where you should check:

Windows PATH

Profile parameters

User's environment variable.

Since you are moving from a very OLD kernel o 741, you need to take care of these things as suggested by standard notes.

Also, have a look at 877795 - Problems with sapstartsrv from Release 7.00 and 6.40 patch 169 . This is not for solution, just for find location, variables and PATH

I've checked all profiles, also of shadow instances. Environment variables are also fine. Windows path is wrong in D:\usr\sap\SUM\sdt\data\variables\JUP.J2EE.DataModel.xml

But I guess edit this file is not supported. But I can't say, why the path is wrong there. So SUM tries to start Service out of a wrong path.

1994690 - Using the 7.41 kernel instead of 7.40

What was you old kernel release ?

If it was way too old, like 700 or something, you may have to adjust profile and path.

old Kernel was 720 patch 600. So not that old. Patched this spring, around March I guess.

I would have patched it with 740 in place of 741.
