SAP ERP integration with TM via WS-RM

We started the implementation of SAP TM 9.1. The documentation discuss integration via PI or A2A direcltly. We did try the direct integration but the guides are not clear as we can not get it working. it still want to go via PI.

What is the advice on integration. Is PI recommended or directly?
