Log file support in SAP APO

Former Member

Hi All,

I am very new to SAP APO & live cache technology , and trying to grasp things as when i work on it.So,please excuse if my doubts are very basic or does not makes sense. My Question 1. During every run a log file of around 1 GB is being created , and minimum  there are 6 APO plan run every day thus , that makes it 6 GB of logs per day which occupies a hug volume. How would i go about solving the issue....we run on SCM 7.0 in DB 6 and Live Cache 7.7

Question 2. My clients complains of DB live cache disconnection frequently, is the above problem some where related to this , or is this some thing else.

Would be of great help if one can throw light on that.

Thanks,

Vivek

Hello,

Question 1.

Is it question about the creation/sizing of the logbackup files when the liveCache autosave logbackups was switched off?

Question 2.

Did you check with what error or message the clients were disconnected from the liveCache?

< check the dumps in /nst22, check system log/application log;

   check the status of the liveCache; DB analyzer logs;

Was the log full issue occurred due the failed logbackups & autosaving was switched off? >

Additional information has to be provided as the complete version of the liveCache and the SCM version/SP.

If the SCM, SCM database and liveCache running on the same server =>

check the sizing & availability of OS resources< memory, CPU >.

I recommend you to create the SAP message to BC-DB-LVC component and get SAP support.

Hi Venkat,

that makes it 6 GB of logs per day which occupies a hug volume. How would i go about solving the issue....we run on SCM 7.0 in DB 6 and Live Cache 7.7

Please configure your log directory or filesystem big enough to hold them.

You can create multiple log volumes and take regular backup to free up space in log volume.

Hi Deepak,

Thanks for the reply.

But is there a way to keep a check on the amount of log file being created?

I suppose my customer would not encourage the increase the log space before finding the root cause.

Thanks.

Hi Venkat,

You can monitor the log size under database studio.

You may also activate auto log feature which shall trigger backup as soon as log area is full.

This backup scan be taken on disk or tape device.

Hi Deepak,

Thanks for the answer once again.

But i have one more question, would it be possible to check the source of each logs & reduce the size??.

Regards.

Hi Venkat,

It may not be possible to trace the source of each logs. Ideally it is the database updates resulting into logs being generated ,

For Management of logs please refer SAP Note 869267 - FAQ: SAP MaxDB log area

Hope this helps.

Hi Deepak,

Thats great!!

Any idea on why my live cache disconnects frequently?

Hi Venkat,

Log area being full could be one of the reasons for livecache connectivity.

For other related information please refer SAP Note 577991 - No connection to liveCache possible

Number of connections exceeding the configured value could be also a reason.

Hi Deepak,

After my analysis through the live cache.

it looks like live cache & SCM are in the same server & LC uses DB6 and not MaxDB

how do i go about this??.

Hi Venkat,

I have not heard of Livecache being running on DB6 database. I am only aware that it runs only on MaxDB and recently supported on SAP HANA DB.

Please recheck your configuration.

Hi Deepak,

Sorry for my very basic questions,

But my LC & SCM system runs on the same server,

And would it be possible to have 2 different DB for a single server??.

Hi Venkat,

Yes we can have both SCM DB and Livecache DB running on the same host.
