SAP PI Java stack - Payload maintenance

Dear Experts,

        In message monitoring, i can able to see last two days payload / messages . If i check 3 days back data, i can't see in message monitor/database/archieve.

How to configure - howlong payload(PI messages) keep in PI system ?

And, can trace messages based on payload information without TREX server installation ? Based on messageID , required to trace messages.
