Question about Mobile Time and Travel Infrastructure

Hi,

We are currently running 4.7 Extension Set 1.1 on our HR environment. We are also running a project now to upgrade this install to ECC 6.0.

If we want to implement MTT 2.0 with our HR environment, do we have to install a separate Middleware Netweaver application server or can we use the same ECC 6.0 instance with Java and ABAP stack to act as the Middle ware server.

Please let us know, since this will help us finalize our landscape.

Thanks,

Hi Srinivasa,

You could use the currently running 4.7 Extension Set 1.1 to act as an abstraction layer.

But whether to install separate Middleware or to continue with the currently running WAS depends completely on the screnario of your application.

The required hardware heavily depends on the numbers of mobile devices that you would like to have. For smaller numbers of users you probably do not need a separate WAS and could share with the present one. For larger numbers (hundreds or thousands) of users I would recommend a separate one for the middleware.

Particularly you need to think in the context of your project since the sizing is not only influenced by the user numbers but by the amount of data, the number of users synchronizing in parallel and your users' synchronization frequence as well. So I highly recommend a project specific sizing.

For furthr info do refer the blogs of <a href="/people/karsten.strothmann/blog/2007/01/27/sap-xapp-mobile-time-and-travel-20-part-two--a-quick-glimpse-at-the-technical-landscape

Hi Srinivasa,

You could use the same instance with ERP 2005 to act as a middleware server. This is not the recommended way, but does work for a small number of users and a low workload. If you have a normal to higher number of users and a medium or higher workload though I would always recommend to have a separate box for the middleware.

So this is basically a performance related decision.
