Can I do /$SYNC while PROD is running?

We have a PROD with more than 12 application servers.

1) can we do /$SYNC when PROD is having the naormal load?

2) should we do /$SYNC on each application server?

I jennifer,

I do not think this is reccomended because as far as I know, this will flush the buffers to clean the cache so the result would be to slow down the productive system.

By the way, why do you neeed to do that?
