result of the telnet is as below

Connecting To localhost...Could not open connection to the host, on port 21212: Connect failed

But does the ports need to be opened on local host as well? If yes then what to do to open this port. I am working on Windows 2008 server

As your Windows team to open this port.

If the port is not open on you local system, connects on this port won't work.

Go to Start => Programs => Administrative Tools => Windows Firewall with Advanced Security , Click on Inbound Rules , New Rule , Select Port , Click Next , Select whether  the port is UDP or TCP , select Specified Local Ports and type the port number which you want to open , Click Next , Select Allow the connection option , Click Next , Click Next , Type the Name of the port and Click Finish .

Hi Saurabh,

Please comment the entry

127.0.0.1 <hostname>

Post this take a reboot of the server and then start sapinst.

Hope this helps.

Hi Saurabh,

As per the logs which you shared it is looking for host 127.0.0.1

F:\usr\sap\Z11\tmp\sapinst_exe.3232.1407227391\jar\instgui.jar" -Xmx256M -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -Dsap.env.var.javahome=SAPINST_JRE_HOME SDTServer "rootdir=C:\Users\z11adm\.sdtgui" config=jar:sdtserver.xml guiport=21212 httpport=4239 -nolock -srvarg=/SAPinstService/host=127.0.0.1 -srvarg=/SAPinstService/port=pipe:636:648

HI Guys

@Deepak : Firewall is already stopped

@Divyanshu : how to determine if the port is busy. Port is not visible in netstat -a command
