Hi Experts,
I am new to DMS and trying to understand it's functionality. We have a content server attached to a DB. What I'm trying to understand if whether I can have multiple repositories assigned to the content server, and then assign multiple storage categories to a specific repository. Is this possible? I'm thinking that the repository is like a silo, then the storage category is the folders within the silo, then the document type is the folders within the folder.
For example:
Server: Content server1
Repository: Engineering department
Storage Category: Restricted Substance
Document Type: RS
Storage Category: Drawings
Document Type: DR1
Document Type: XYZ
Server: Content server1
Repository: Quality department
Storage Category: Work Instructions
Document Type: BOM
Another question I am trying to figure out is what is Document Area? Can I only have one document area per server? Where does this get defined?
If anyone can shed any light on this I would be much obliged.
Regards,
Julie
Understood. Thank you Sanjeev.

Hi,
document type you can define lots in DC10 transaction, but repository system would be one only.
below is the imp transaction for configuration DMS
DC10 | Define document types |
DC20 | Define data carrier |
DC30 | Define workstation application |
DCSWI | Document Browser Switch |
DCSWITCH | Browser and ACL switch |

Sanjeev

Hello,
document are is DMS, yer you can have one document per server. and you can define as i explain below in OAC0 transaction
Content Rep. : DMS_C1
Document area- DMS Document management system
Storage type - 03 SAP system data base
Rep. Sub type - Normal
Version no : 0045
Contents table: DMS_CONT1_CD1
Physical Basic Path - E:\usr\sap\IDS\SYS\global\
Then assigned Storage system to Storage Category in OACT in the following way :
Document Area : DMS
Content Rep. : DMS_C1

Sanjeev
