I am unable to login into my fresh install of BO 4.0 edge edition?
I have installed the trial version of my Business objects 4.0 BI edge edition. I have been trying to get this working for last 2 weeks. I am still unsuccesfull. I have setup ODBC connection to my Microsoft SQL express server.
I keep getting error message.
"Account information not recognized: Could not reach CMS . The CMS on machine was stopped due to a critical error. (FWM 20031) "
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Anyone, know what steps I can take to create my own Reports. and start creating my own Universe???? SQL statements. Like the boxes and connect with Inner Join queries?????
any help is appreciated.

You need to use the software called "Information Design Tool" (IDT), which is part of the "SAP BI Business Objects client tools", this is NOT a web based tool. The SAP Busobjects Client Tools are a separate download and are not included in your server install!
I kindly suggest reading up the free SAP BI Tutorials here: http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-7725
and attending some official SAP training courses to get you started: https://training.SAP.com
Hi John ,
You need to check couple of things here .
1. Can you connect to CMS database using DNS created for CMS database .
2. If you can login , then please check whether BO repository tables are created or not. If installation is proper then you should be able to see around 7 tables.
Seeing the event log that you have posted , it seems BO is not able t connect to CMS database .
Make sure CMS database is 64 bit database server and you have created DNS for 64 bit ODBC only.
Kindly note SIA is runnning does not mean all BO services are up and runnning.
Please let me know your observations.
Regards
Jeevan

1. Can you connect to CMS database using DNS created for CMS database?
I don't know. I created a ODBC connection to my SQL server using Windows authentication. When I run my business objects setup file. It shows me the database I created with the BO4_CMS name.
2. If you can login , then please check whether BO repository tables are created or not. If installation is proper then you should be able to see around 7 tables.
Yes, under the BO4_CMS database in my SQL server. It shows around 7 tables in the end it shows number 7.
I don't know what to do after that. I am lost. I keep getting authetication error. saying my login is not good.
I will try to re-install the BO again. see what happens.
when the login page http://localhost:8080/BOE/CMC opens up.
what do I put in for username, during setup it never asked for username?
what is the username?
password I setup already during setup. I tried username Administrator and the password I created during setup. It is not working. Take a look at the screenshot
If you forgot the password, follow below KB to reset the password

Hi,
Cluster means, more than one system.
When two BO servers are connected to a single datasource ( CMS DB ), they are termed as in cluster.
To cluster them, you require a key, which is the cluster key.
Cluster key is required when you want to connect to your system db.
check what errors you see in event viewer.
check if CMS.exe is running in task manager.
If not, try to stop SIA. Go to SIA properties. go to startup and configuration tabs and check if you get any pop up errors during the same.
If not, go to configuration tab>click on specify> select the first option ( update data source ) connect to your db and check if you are able to connect succesfully.

John,
If you go to the CCM, you can log into the SIA and see all the servers inside running and enable?

Hello John,
Server Intelligence Agent (SIA) is just a container for other BO Services. In order to login to BusinessObjects application, cms.exe should be running in Task Manager.
At this moment, first restart the server Intelligence Agent and see if it spawns cms.exe.
else need to enable trace to debug the issue.

this is the error found in my event viewer. I have no idea what to do next.

here is another error found.

Hi Josh,
Host file does look good for now.
According to the error message, it seems like CMS has the connection with CMS database. (unable to connect...).
Requirements:
Administrator Password, Cluster Key, CMS database, connection details
steps:
1. Run CCM
2. Right click Stop Server intelligence agent (SIA).
3. Right click again select properties> configuration tab.
4. take a screenshot of error message.
5. click specify, select database type and enter details.
Hope this helps.

Onkar
Hi John,
Also, make sure that your host file entries look good.
You should have your loopback address and your domain name with IP address (separated with tab).
e.g
127.0.0.1 localhost
10.x.x.x mydomainnamefqdn.com hostname

Onkar

How do I verify that host file entries look good? I don't know how to verify this? what steps do I do?
How do I check for loopback address? Is this directory in the C: drive or somewhere else?
thank you for posting.
here is my drivers/etc/hosts file,

Hi John,
Couple of things...
1. Make sure you supply port number along with System name while logging into CMC.
2. Do you see cms.exe running in the Windows Task Manager on the server?
3. Check Windows Event Viewer if there is any port communication issues.
Regards,
Mahesh

The system name and port number is for SAP authentication. Should I not log in as Windows AD authetication or Enterprise. This is the free trial version I am using.
2. Do you see cms.exe running in the Windows Task Manager on the server?
I will check on this and report back to you.
3. Check Windows Event Viewer if there is any port communication issues.
How do I perform this step. I don't know where to look for the Windows Event Viewer. I am copletely new to this Business Objects deal.
thanks for replying.
