SAP MII - Online Help / Wiki

Hello Everyone,

we're starting to face a problem that the multitude of functions available in the customer UIs of our MII Applications require some help or documentation. We have tried to solve the problem by making some static PDF documentation links in certain areas of the UIs for the users to view but that does not solve the full problem.

Does anyone have any experiance with some Online Help / Wiki running on SAP MII 12.1? We basically need a tool which can be linked across the different UIs but also allow users to just view the entire help / documentation content and search through it freely.

Our research led us to try out the jamWIKI (jamwiki.org) and it seems to fullfill our needs but maybe some of you already had some success with different tools.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Janusz

Something like PageDown which can be be run entirely on the client side might be worth taking a look at. You could easily store the markdown in an MDO or database.

Dear Christian,

thank you for the answer but PageDown is not what we are looking for.

What we need is a took that works in a similar fashion as SAP GUI help meaning that it has to support 2 features:

- we need to be able to link specific help to specific elements (for example information about creating a maintenance order in a given UI)

- users should be able to view the entire content and navigate through it to discover the application features

From those 2 requirements we think that what we need is a WIKI where so far we have found JamWIKI suitable for our purposes but wanted to hear from you whether there are some better alternatives.

Best regards,

Janusz

All Wiki are basically providing the same functionality with the primary difference being what platform they are implemented on. Because of that I wanted to look for something that could play nice within the MII container. I suggested PageDown Because it can render the wiki markup on the client so I though it would be relatively easy to make it part of an MII implementation instead of running and maintaining a separate solution. Regarding the requirements you mentioned you could leverage MII's existing navigation or build your own very easily. You could leverage the security infrastructure as well. You could also easily write a plugin to generate a help button that links to the correct wiki location based on its current context etc. Anyway just wanted to explain better why I though something like PageDown could help meet your requirements.

Christian

Dear Christian,

thank you for the detailed explanation but as you already state PageDown is designed just to render the content, not to manage it.

We could of course implement our own content management including versioning and indexing and integrate it into the MII environment but since time is a scarse ressource at the moment we are looking for a solution which can cover all aspects of a WIKI.

Best regards,

Janusz
