Hi,
I installed an SCM server 5.0 with an integrated liveCache on a 64 bit Windows platform. When I'm trying to initiate the connections LCA, LDA and LEA that I created, i get this error stating that the database instance is not found.
Here's the specific error:
Name and Server : LC1 - MDCSAP07
DBMRFC Function : DBM_CONNECT
Error : DBM Error
Return Code : -4
Error Message : database instance not found
During the installation of the SCM server, I defined AP1 as the SID for the system and SAPAP1 as the ABAP schema user.
Later on the installation, I was prompted to define a liveCache ID as well as the liveCache user. I used LC1 as the liveCache ID and SAPLC1 as the user.
Would this be the cause of the database instance connection failure?
Should the liveCache ID be the same as the SCM SID since the liveCache was integrated in the SCM installation and therefore will use the database of the SCM system?
LiveCache experts please help!
Hello Michael,
You got the error 'Error Message : database instance not found' when you tried to connect to the liveCache instance LC1 on the server MDCSAP07.
Please check that the liveCache is installed on the server MDCSAP07 as pro liveCache installation guide.
-> Run 'sdbregview -l' to list the database packages installed on the server
< by default installation the sdbregview tool located in <.>/sapdb/programs/bin >.
-> Run the following commands:
dbmcli -s inst_enum
< to display the list of all registered versions of the database software on the database server MDCSAP07 >
dbmcli -s db_enum
< to display a list of all the database instances registered on the database server MDCSAP07 >
-> If the liveCache instance LC1 was listed by "dbmcli db_enum" command => you will be able to connect using command
'dbmcli -d LC1 -n MDCSAP07 -u control,<pwd> db_state'
< default password of the control user is 'control' >
Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina

Hi Natalia,
I tried all the commands you instructed. They all return this error:
Error! Connection failed to node MDCSAP07 for database LC1:
database instance not found
So this means the liveCache isn't installed yet? If so, please clarify, during the SCM installation where I define parameters, there's a specific part where I define the liveCache ID, control password, livecache user and password, then I browse for the liveCache media, and after all of these, I start the SCM installation, this will not install the liveCache yet? I still have to install the liveCache separately?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Mike
Hello Michael,
1) When you installed the Central or Dialog application servers, you gave these information about the liveCache for the LCA, LDA & LEA connections to setup correctly. Also you was asked to install the liveCache client software to be able to communicate to the liveCache, if the liveCache will be running on another server < See SAP note '822239 MaxDB Interfaces'>.
2)The installation guides for SCM 5.0 are available at
service.sap.com/instguides -> mySAP Business Suite Applications ->
mySAP SCM -> Using SAP SCM 5.0 Server
< LiveCache installation guide:
Installation - SAP liveCache Technology on <...> - NW04s SR2 >.
Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina
Hi Natalia,
I have one doubt regarding the installation of SCM 7.0 EHP1,hope you can help me in this regard.
First let me clarify you on our scenario.
We are doing a distributed installation where our CI will be on
one server and DB will be on another server and we will do stanalone
installation of livecache on CI server,so finally we will have
CI and livecache on one server.
DB on another server.
But we are facing issues during installation of DB server , it
was asking us to provide the livecache filesystem and dvd's.
Until we have created the filesystem for livecache and provided the
dvd's the installation was not going forward.
After creating filesystem for livecache and providing DVD's
installation went well and it has installed livecache and db on that
server.
Then we have installed standalone livecache on CI server and after that
we have installed CI ,while installing CI it has again asked for
livecache DVD's but it has only installed livecache client on CI server.
According to you it will only install Livecache client on DB and there
is no need for livecache filesystem but until or unless we have created
the filesystem the installation didn't went forward,so our query here isthat is there any option that we can use to skip that livecache
installation.
