rec/client Parameter needed on all App Servers?

Former Member

Hi, i am interested to know if the parameter 'rec/client' works only for the instance it is set on, so for example if you have a Central Instance (DB Instance also) with rec/client=ALL but the application server(s) have rec/client=000, does the Central/DB Instance control this feature or is it independent?

Thanks in advance, and Regards

Ash

Hi

You can configure the client that should be logged by the

R/3 profile parameter rec/client (see documentation in your R/3 system)

Generally, there should not be too many entries logged, because

logging is only set for cusomizing tables (by default) and

customizing should not happen too often.

Also see note 41300, 1916

Hi, thanks for your reply. Looking at S Note 1916 this states that all servers must have the same setting for logging to work correctly, which is what i wanted to know. However there is no explanation of what occurs if settings are different or otherwise, anyone know the background on how this param (rec/client) works?

Thanks

Ashley,

Since the rec/client parameter deals with controlling the logging at a client level, only the CI is relevant here. The app servers will have no client per se, only the CI controls this.

If you set this parameter on a app server, I would wager the system would ignore it and keep the settings on the CI where you have rec/client=ALL.

Just out of curiosity, what is the output of this parameter in RZ11?

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your response, as im not at work now until Tue i will check then and let you know. I think it would reveal the instance profile setting which was the default client, however all other servers are set to ALL, which led to my suspicions.

I will update..

Thanks
