Former Member
0 Kudos

Hi,

The SAP “SWPM” installation GUI is not getting started with the following message,

“guiengine: No GUI server connected; waiting for a connection on host bhitdms01, port 21212 to continue with the installation“

However, output of “xclock” is fine.

OS : SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11

Thanks, Ganesh

For Testing, I will say you should also try to ue VNC/XManager in place of humming bird.

when xclock is working, why should I try VNC ?

Also, I am not allowed to Install VNC on client machine.

Have not any reply from unix team regarding the port / firewall.

Thanks,

Hi Ganesh

In place of VNC you can use the console and the try to install the SAP by using command "./sapinst" (Dont use the switch -nogui). in same way we are installed the SAP on IBM AIX

Hi Ganesh

I thing you might have install the X Manager . on your SUSE Linux console go to SWPM extractor folder from there you can type the command "./sapinst" and check the SAPgui console for SAP installation

Hi Sriram,

Not sure about xmanager.

output remains same, when I try with "./sapinst"  / sapinst -nogui

output of telnet command :

"telnet XXXXXXX 21212

Connecting To XXXXXXX...Could not open connection to the host, on port 21212:

Connect failed"

"telnet XXXXXXX.XX.XXXXXXX.com 21212

Connecting To XXXXXXX.XX.XXXXXXX.com...Could not open connection to the host,

on port 21212: Connect failed"

strongly suspect,  this could be a port issue ...

hi ganesh,

Use nc not telnet.

telnet will work when your application using port is UP.

Hi Ganesh

kindly follow the steps

1. You might have start /stop the SAPinst so many time, better do the complete restart system.

2. Open console SUSE Linux OS(Don't use the Telnet sessions) just type the command with root privileges " ./sapinst "

3. Check the SAPgui xwindow pop up or not?

All,

Thanks for your replies.

The issue was due to some issue between citrix and server, which was blocking installation GUI.

Able to start installation 🙂

Meanwhile,

Clear everything in temp directory - including all hidden files.

Check port is not busy some where else.

Also, there are no spaces and special characters installation path and temp directory.

Hi Divyanshu,

This is the only log file "syslib_priv.log.txt" available,

please refer attachement.

tmp directory have 5 GB of free space and permission is ok.

Hi Ganesh,

Can you check /tmp/sapinst_instdir and /tmp/solman_inst

Also, what commands are you giving, can you give the screenshot.

Hi Ganesh

1. Have you proved full access on the SWPM extraction folder?

2. Have you start the syntax " ./sapinst -nogui" ?

Hi Divyanshu,

Tried "./sapinst GUISERVER_DIALOG_PORT=22201 SAPINST_DIALOG_PORT=22213",

output remains same.

Already tried this option ( unset JAVA_HOME)

In that case, get some other version of SWPM.

Hi Ganesh

Once you have started the " ./sapinst -nogui " in linux OS then you have to start the gui from windows OS in command prompt " SAPINSTGUI -host=(Host name of the Linux OS)" then you

can perform the installation steps from windows OS

OR on linux you can use the X manager windows

I suspect this could be the port issue, since this is a newly built system.

I have asked unix team to check the ports and firewalls.

lets wait ...

any other suggestions ...

Hi Ganesh,

Goto the media directory /sapmedia/SWPM10SP06_1-20009701/and execute the command from there

I hope nothing is kept on NFS.

Use this - nc -zv hostname xx-yy(port range)

Hallo,

from you Windows box just run below command while the sapinst command is running on your Suse box:

telnet bhitdms01 21212

If the connection works, you will get some sort of telnet output (ctrl-d and "quit)  to get out of it.

At least you will then have clarified that you network infrastructure (firewall) allows the connection.

Thomas.

Hi all, Recently I have faced same issue during DAA installation in AS Java system in windows OS.

Solution :

1. Change JAVA_HOME environment variable to D:\usr\sap\<SID>\J00\exe\sapjvm_6

2. Check SAPINST_JRE_HOME environment variable is present or not, if already present then delete this.

3. Check environment variable PATH and if there is any JRE path added then delete only this path and add JAVA_HOME variables value.(D:\usr\sap\<SID>\J00\exe\sapjvm_6).

>>>sample value of PATH= C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\nsr\bin;C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\Windows\System32\Windows System Resource Manager\bin;C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0;C:\Program Files\Microsoft Network Monitor 3;C:\CoreUtil\MTResKit;C:\Program Files\SysInternals Suite;C:\Program Files\7-zip;C:\Program Files\System Center Operations Manager 2007\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Binn\;%JAVA_HOME%\bin;C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Binn\;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\Control-M Agent\Default\exe;C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Imaging\;D:\usr\sap\DP1\J00\exe\sapjvm_6

***Bold portion need to add.***

After changing variables also clear tmp folder(open run-->type %TMP% -->select all and delete)

Best of Luck. This will surely work.

Hi Ganesh

I thing you have to start the SAPGUI from windows OS system to connect the linux server host,

check with SAP Note

1928401 - Not able to launch SAPinst GUI

1680045 - Release Note for Software Provisioning Manager 1.0 SP06
