Delete shortname of a printer

Hi,

I would like to know " can we delete the short name of a printer " in sap. if so what happens..

Printer short names are primary keys at the DB level, and even if you modify the value at the DB you will destroy numerous condition or event based rules that your functional teams have created, and you will potentially break various business processes (document archiving as an example).

If you need to change the short name of a printer, create the new one and provide a dead line for people to switch over to it, then delete it from your system.

Hi Kalyan,

Hope you are doing good.

Try this workaround instead:

If you go to transaction SPAD and enter the name of the old short name in the field to the

right of button 'Output Devices' and then click on button 'Output button 'Output Devices', this output device will be displayed in SPAD.

There are no 'Spool server' or Host printer' entries in the definition.

I guess you can delete it via SPAD in this way and then enter the new output device.

Hi Kalyan,

Usually shortnames are derived automatically from the device name and the field is greyed out.

So I do not see any possibility of directly delete this shortname.

Also forceful deletion of any table entries is not as such supported by SAP.
